All the communities of Keynsham, Saltford and surrounding villages are invited to join the ride for 'More to Life' in 2008. What better way to start the journey than with travel?
January’s focus was travel in all its forms, bringing great explorers to Keynsham and the schools, as well as encouraging people to go on their own journeys to see the world, help those in need globally and to start their own spiritual journeys in life, or to continue from where they are already. A number of people have commented to those running events and what follows is an amalgamation of those comments. The community of Keynsham and the surrounding area has certainly been touched by the quality of visitors More to Life has brought in, as well as the openness to go into schools and many other venues including churches, who have given over some of their services to host these wonderful guests to our community!
‘Just a note to say how great last night was! A great turn out and Benedict Allen was an excellent speaker. A great launch for MORE TO LIFE 08.’
'This week, Year 10 had the pleasure of an hour in the company of Benedict Allen the global explorer. Benedict explained how he had coped in difficult times during his explorations and on the importance of remaining open to new ideas and of lifelong learning. Benedict's enthusiasm and superb presentation gave a real sense of the wonder that our world can provide …….. It also contributed to our student’s wider cultural awareness. We are very grateful for the link with Benedict and introducing us all to the fantastic More to Life programme running in Keynsham this year.’
‘Rob Lilwall engaged the whole school as he recounted his bike ride from Siberia (-40c in a tent!) back to the UK via Australia, India, Afghanistan, the Middle East and Europe! Amazing photos, thought-provoking quotes and Rob’s self-effacing manner combined in a powerful way.’
‘The first thing that struck me as Charles Nienkirchen spoke was that I want to be a pilgrim, not a tourist on this journey of my life, that I want to ‘live with heart’, the definition which Charles used to explain courage. I loved his sad phrase ‘the deserts of life bake our hearts’ because we've all been there haven't we? Tonight I was very interested in his observations about epiphany moments - that an Epiphany moment brings order to a chaotic soul and can help us to see something in a way we haven't seen it before. I so agree with his instruction to be prepared to engage in the conversation before conversion can happen - that really links with what he said tonight about kindness and hospitality.’
‘I very much enjoyed Charles’ talks - much to challenge me and to pray about (another lovely phrase ‘prayer, the oxygen of the spiritual life’) Please pass my thanks to Charles.’
'Conversations was a pleasure; it has already had impact, and this year generally has much that will make a difference in the valley.’
‘I'll always have a very sweet memory of my week of Epiphany in Keynsham … it was just wonderful. No doubt as the months pass 'More to Life' will carve out its own course and find its own energy. I can't help but feel that many good things will come out of it as more and more people catch the vision and start to feel the Spirit tugging at their hearts and calling them to a new way of living.’ --- Charles Nienkirchen
