We are very sorry but this event will now not happen this week. William has sent huge apologies : he was up for the ‘Indian Booker’ prize for his recent ‘Last Mughal’ book and, although he didn’t feel he was a contender, he has in fact now been awarded the prize – an immense honour. The presentation, in Bombay/Mumbai on Thursday, with its attendant media presence, is of course very difficult indeed for him to pass up. We negotiated with William’s agent to see if there were any possible travel arrangements that could overcome this, but there were none. Suzi Mizrahi (Music Festival Director), and Simon Howell(representing More-to-Life), as joint producers of Wednesday night’s event, obviously did not feel we could claim the primacy of our smaller, local event in the face of this. William in turn said he will come to Keynsham to speak - free of charge - at a later date.
William Dalrymple is perhaps the foremost writer interpreting the spiritual landscapes of the world.
He has won multiple awards – including the Thomas Cook Travel Award, a Best Documentary BAFTA, and the Sandford St Martin Prize for Religious Broadcasting. Other books published include ‘City of Djinns’ and ‘In Xanadu’.
This special evening will begin at 7.30pm and get going at 8pm. Please arrive as soon after 7.30 as you can, ready for the 8pm start!
In partnership with Keynsham Music Festival.
